French football's Player of the Week is...Maiga
Frenchfootballweekly

This week’s player of the week, for responding to being booed off in his last home match by scoring two and getting the match-winning penalty, is Metz’s Modibo Maiga.

Similar to Diame if the penny has dropped or he has found a situation that work for his talents, great, wish him well.

But when I saw him play live last year, the things that really frustrated me had nothing do with playing as a lone striker. He didn't chase balls with any intent, when he got there first, he got muscled of it immediately and he certainly did not press the opposition with any real conviction when he didn't have the ball .

Those are things that have made the two striker system work so far this year.

If it was only our system that was preventing him looking like a great player, how come it's taken him this long to have a decent game for someone else?

Surely he'd have been banging them in for QPR when on loan in the championship there and have taken alot less time than until November to score for Metz...

I want him to do well, but let's not pretend he's a great player who was just a victim at West Ham.

Goodluck to him.

The guy had ability but was played in a system that was not suited to him when he was here.

Pleased for him, always thought he had ability, expect he'd be scoring goals in our current side if we still had him.

I reckon he'd do alright up front with Sahko and getting fed by Downing and Song.

Valencia looked Dogshit on Saturday playing in the 'old' set up that we had in the first half. Maiga was no different. Where some people saw him as lazy, I couldnt help thinking he had had enough of running after long balls that were no where near him.

Good for him.maybe his confidence is getting lifted playing in a unit that recognizes his ability more than a pholosophy

Good for him. Let's hope he continues to score regularly so we can get some money for him next summer.

And Maiga didn't have Song and Downing feeding him either.

Re: French football's Player of the Week is...Maiga
the only forwards who've succeeded under allardyce are the current 2 and thats because he's been forced to change his style of play, as with others maiga was misused and unsuited to having the ball launched at him.

So, er.....do we still own him, then, or what?

It's nothing, I'm just...curious, like.

The more that I think about it the more I think that it was unfair playing him up front by himself. He's not that sort of player.

It would have been interesting playing him next to Carroll.
